Wedgworth Construction, founded in 1979, enjoys a great reputation for building high quality custom homes. Many of our home-buyers are friends of satisfied customers. Over 250 single family homes have been built since we started our company. Some of the communities built and developed by Wedgworth Construction include Wyngate, Thornhill, Magnolia Ridge, Ivy Glenn, and Surrey Oaks. With the exception of Wyngate, all of these communities are developed and built in the City of Vestavia Hills, Alabama. Wedgworth Construction Company, Inc. has built numerous scattered homesites in prestigious areas such as Countryridge, Countrywood Highlands, TangleCreek, Buckhead, Abingdon Green, and Panorama Cove. Currently, Wedgworth Construction is developing and building Woodridge, another prestigious Vestavia Hills community.

The construction industry has gone through many changes in President Mike Wedgworth's 27-year tenure in the business. Here at Wedgworth Construction, we use the latest technology to bring you the best service possible. Our computer hardware is fully-integrated and networked with every phase of the construction process. This includes job details, scheduling, cost and communication. Every new home begins with a detailed cost estimate, written specifications and a schedule. The construction is continually monitored by the staff with computer software.

For the most part, Wedgworth Construction only builds homes in communities they develop. This enables our personnel to focus on one community. This means better quality control and access to our staff. One of the managers will always be in the community where the homes are built. We have direct dispatch radio communication so we will always have someone available to serve the client on-site. Another feature we have is a sample showroom located within the building office. This allows our clients to conveniently select and choose many amenities.

In 1985, Wedgworth Realty, Inc. was founded to market our homes and communities. We only market our own real estate properties. As with the Wedgworth Construction, we concentrate only on one community at a time. This enables us to focus solely on selling your home. We know the single family residential market very well, and we will be there when you need us.

Mike Wedgworth, President, is a graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Building Construction. He is a former Parade of Homes winner and was named 1988 Builder of the Year and served as 1990 President of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders. Mike is still an active member of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders and currently serves on the Past President's Council.

As a 25 year veteran of the building business and former president of the Women’s Council of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders, Project Manager and Sales and Marketing Director Debra Ward-Drennen knows what it takes to make a customer’s dream home a reality…“communicating with the homeowners through every phase of the project,” she says. “I am involved from the very beginning with the planning of the home design and go straight through to closing.  I make sure we have each question about the house answered in plenty of time for the Superintendent to have what he needs to build the house.”

Decisions, decisions, decisions…selecting this paint color or that molding can be an overwhelming concern to a homeowner. Some homeowners know what they want and how they want it, while others aren’t so sure. Luckily, Ward-Drennen speaks homeowners’ language—she always has just the words to communicate homeowners’ dreams to those creating the home.

Ward-Drennen’s attention to detail has long made her a standout among her peers. Starting out as a bank loan officer, she changed career paths and entered the building industry in 1979. Nine years later, she started her own construction company with a partner.  In 1997, she joined the Wedgworth Construction team as Project Manager and Sales and Marketing Director.

She is married to Doug Drennen and is the proud mother of two grown children. She is a member of Bluff Park United Methodist Church.

He is proud to be a licensed home builder in the state of Alabama.

He is married to Jennifer Lueke and enjoys Auburn football, fishing and aviation—he has been a licensed pilot for 15 years.

Ethics and efficiency reign supreme at Wedgworth Construction. Office Manager Patty Leeming ensures that all accounting and project cost estimates are correct. Having attended East Tennessee State University, Leeming has worked in accounting for 16 years. She is happily married to Dusty Leeming, the father of her beautiful 6-year-old daughter.  She enjoys volunteering with her daughter’s Brownie troop, putting the same special care into it that she does her work at Wedgworth Construction.
